Who We are
The RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) is an unprecedented private national tripartite initiative to carry forward the significant accomplishments made in workplace safety in Bangladesh. The RSC was set up by three incorporating members representing each of the three constituents from Industry, Global Fashion Brands and Global and Local Trade Unions.
This tripartite initiative was established with the primary objective of implementing workplace safety programs across the more than 1,800 Ready-Made Garment (RMG) factories governed by the RSC. Our long-term goal is to extend coverage to all RMG export-oriented factories within the nation. We are committed to empower all our customers with a comprehensive safety and compliance system driven by a customer-centric and solution-oriented approach by remaining relevant in the ever-evolving business landscape through continuous improvement, transparency and integrity.
The RSC conducts structural, electrical, fire & life safety and boiler safety inspections, supports and monitors remediation, conducts safety training, and operates an independent occupational safety & health complaints mechanism available to workers in covered RMG factories.
Â
The RSC is fully committed to transparency and public accountability. We perform initial inspections, follow-up inspections, and verification inspections. We report on the remediation of identified safety hazards at inspected factories by publishing initial inspection reports and updating Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) to show progress on remediation efforts.
Â
With a committed team of approximately 270 staff members and an 18-member Board of Directors (BoD) providing strategic oversight, we function within the regulatory framework of Bangladesh. We hold a license from the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), as well as various other relevant governmental departments, through the Government Coordination Council (GCC).
